TAKE some Ibuprofin, drink lots of water, but DO not, i repeat do not milk them to relieve the pain. The milk will never dry out if you do!
They will leak, use pads. But they will dry out in a week or so.

Personally, I tried to breastfeed but wasn't taking good enough care of myself to do so. I did it for 2 weeks. At first my son wouldn't latch on to good, Then we were scared about if he was getting enough milk. Then I bought the most expensive pump, but then my mother-in-law told me that it would sag my breast. It was horrible. Since I was a first time mom, I was vulnerable for advice and stopped it all together. Personally, I felt relieved, even though I felt a little guilty. It didn't help that I had everyone at my doctor's office making me feel guilty that I wasn't breastfeeding, they were the breat nazis. You do what you feel is right. Besides formula is just as good. As for stopping the milk production there is nothing you can do. I still had milk after a long time. Even now after 8 months I still occasionally get some milk. It takes time, thats what I have heard. I was formula fed, and so is my son and we are both fine. You do what is right for you. Best of luck.

Well I just waited it out but, I have heard that you can use cabbage leaves in a sports bra and it will dry up in a week. I also heard of benadril ( take it for a few days) and it will go away. Also wrap your boobs in ace bandage ( very tight) it will help!! I just did it the old fashion way( I heard of all these to late) and it took 3-4 weeks.
The pain will go away in a few days ( to just sore not painful) but you will leak for weeks if you do not use anything.

Apparently cabbage leaves in your bra can make it feel better - seriously - the midwives at the hospital told me this. Heat packs and hot showers would also be good. It'd also take some paracetomol for pain relief and maybe get some tablets to dry up the milk.

The scientific institution the place I gave beginning had a lactation representative that develop into very efficient. coaching me a thank you to get my son to latch on wisely so it did no longer harm. a minimum of try it, there are a number of wellness advantages of breast feeding for the two baby and mom. And an magnificent element is the funds you will save provided that breast milk is unfastened!

I know how you feel. Hot towels, cabbage leaves and wet tea bags were what I was told to do. Don't express the milk because that will just make it keep coming in. Don't worry it will go away in a few days.

Pretty much everything everybody else has said are good ways to help it. DO NOT though bind your breasts w/ an ace bandage or anything, this can cause a clogged duct and lead to mastitis.....NOT FUN!!!!! Both of those are quite painful, so it'll just make you more miserable!

I totally know what you're going through... try to wrap a tensor bandage around your boobs... bind them up tight. A warm towel across them to allow them to leak out... try to self-express some of the milk to relieve pressure. It will probably be a few days of pain... but it will improve.

reading the above answers, i agree about the cabbage leaves... i have heard wonderful things about that! keep them in the fridge, then put them in your bra. switch them out often so they stay cool.
however, i see a lot of people saying to use hot towels or take hot showers.... most of my breastfeeding literature says to use heat if you want to relieve pain but still keep producing milk. but if you want your milk to dry up, you should always use cold packs or cold showers, never heat.
either way, good luck and remember it's temporary! and take lots of ibuprofen. :)

Get in the shower and the warm water helps.. if all else fails.. use breast pump to relieve alittle bit.. but don't take all of it out because body will produce what the baby needs.. also the plastic cups help that you put in your bra.. since they tend to put pressure to release pressure.. dump out the milk that comes in it and put in again..plus they help when you want to go out to dinner without leakage
