A lot of people wink to try to make people feel more comfortable, kinda like smiling. But if it makes you uncomfortable, you need to let him know. If he does not stop, then he is breaking the rules. You can also talk to your guidance counsler about it.

Are they "supposed" to wink? Not any more than they are "supposed" to smile or yawn or cough. Is it against the rules? It may depend on your school district, but I've never heard of a school district that has addressed that.

I sometimes wink when I'm playing a trick and letting another student in on it. That sort of winking doesn't usually bother anyone. It really depends on the context of the wink, doesn't it?

If your teacher is just randomly winking and smiling at you for long periods of time, it might make you feel wierd. You probably aren't comfortable telling the teacher about it directly. Why not bring it up with another teacher you feel comfortable talking to? That teacher could let the winker know that it's making students feel a bit strange. If nothing stops and you're still feeling creepy about it, talk to your counselor.

I suggest talking to a fellow teacher first because chances are that the winking is harmless and will stop once the teacher knows how it makes his students feel. Going directly to your office personnel could get this teacher in trouble, and you wouldn't want to do that for something innocent.

I hope your situation is resolved with as little strain on you as possible.

I think it depends on how old the students are and their relationship with the the teacher. I wink at students all the time, but I do it as a way of letting them know I care or that I am just teasing them and I am not serious. I teach elementary and actually had one student (6th grade at the time) tell me it actually made her feel good. Mind you, I am female and as much as I'd hate to admit it, I probably wouldn't do it if I were a male. Too many people willing to think the worst (although sometimes warranted) these days. If you feel comfortable enough with your teacher ask him why he winks at you and if you aren't satisfied with his answer than tell him that it makes you feel uncomfortable. Bring a friend if it makes you more comfortable.

Not advisable at any time for a teacher to wink...too many wrong interpretations or meanings. I was old school and we students (guys anyway) just dreamed that a teacher MIGHT want to "fool around"...but most were not attractive.

well....i know some people who wink, and they use it as a "you get i'm joking right?" kind of thing. or like, "i knew you were smart enough to understand my sarcasm." but....i see how it could seem flirty.

some times guy teachers are just being themselves, and they don't even realize what they are doing. i would tell the teacher, "you know, that winking is making me uncomfortable. would you mind not doing it?"

I am a teacher and one of my eyes just winks on its own. I have a twitch in one eye. Maybe he does too.
