Vinca--it remains green in winter and in hot summers, it takes shade an sun, and resists my dogs! I love it and in the spring blooming time it looks like a magic carpet (my secret. . . I planted violets and vinca together and they bloom at the same time. Draw back--vinca is relatively slow growing and it is expensive.

I love the way winter grass looks, but it doesn't last long....any sod, bermuda, kentucky is prolly the best, expensive but lasts if you keep it up.
