Hi there!! My 18 yr. old sister-in-law is preggers, yay for her! I do not have a baby of my own, so I really don't know where to look for discounted baby things. But she is staying with my self and my husband, so we need it all, crib, changer, stroller, carseat, clothing for her and the baby. We want new things if possible, or atleast if you can refer me to some where trust worthy, for safety reasons of the baby products. Please if you know any where that I can look for these types of things, please let me know. Thanks!

First off I would make sure you *really* need all the things you think you do. One of the biggest mistakes new parents make is to think they need everything. If she will be breastfeeding then you won't need any bottles and related equipment, just a few nursing bras and/or camisoles. If you get the nursing camisoles and wear them under your shirts just about anything will be nursing friendly clothing. Target is a great place to get these.
If she will be co-sleeping then she won't need a crib, though a co-sleeper might be helpful. Arms Reach makes one.
I personally would skip the stroller and get a good baby carrier instead- a sling, wrap, or pouch. I would not recommend getting one of these in a "mainstream" store. I would look on a site like The Babywearer or go to a local Nine In Nine Out meeting to see what the best brands to get are.
I also would skip the changing table get a Baby Bjorn Little Potty (BBLP) for $10 and do Elimination Communication (EC). It will save you bundles on diapers too! You can get the BBLP many places including Babies R Us.
If you do end up saving by using my suggestions above I would spend the extra money on an excellent carseat. I would go with a Britax if possible.
I hope that helps!

Target is great they have cribs for like 120 and you should save up for a good stroller that the baby can use for a few years. The last thing you want are those really big strollers that look like trucks. I like MClaren they are really good. A changer is not needed especially if the money is low. You can change the baby in the crib or on the bed. It's a waste of money. Oh and as far as the car seats. Do you research there was a segment about the dangers of some of the top car seat brands.

walmart carries alot of baby things & also some maternity clothes
Beall's outlets if u have 1 near u,dollar stores carry the nesseccities for pretty cheap.sometimes it is cheaper to buy '2 in 1' items and sometimes it is not.some retail shops have amazing things for small prices. most will let you try what ever it is that u are interested in.most baby stores are gonna be more expensive.try yard and garage sells for maternity clothes b/c they can get really expse.maybe check the tell & sell for some things like the bed and stroller even put in an ad.they are free so u wont have to pay to post it.maybe some friends that have babies would loan u some things if u asked.let the grands spend some money, thats why they are there to spoil baby rotten.i wouldnt buy too many baby clothes b/c if she has a shower she will probably get a lot of them.try to register at as many stores as u can so that people can check the registry to see what u have requested and relly need so that you dont get things that u dont want or dont care for

A lot of things are okay to buy 2nd hand. However, I would never buy a car seat used because you never know if it has ever been in an accident. I also would want a new crib to insure all the parts were there. Target, K-Mart and Walmart have good prices on baby items. Kohl's have great sales on clothes. They have 50% off sales a lot on Saturdays and Wednesdays. You can look for consignment and resale shops for some things. If you live in Michigan, there is an organization called Mom 2 Mom's, where mom's get together on Saturday mornings and buy and sell their children's outgrown items. Their web-site is mom2momlist.com. They also have good links to other sites.

Depending on where you live, there are several resale shops (check websites- most do their own recall checks-they don't buy/sell products that have been recalled) that sell just baby things. If she'll be thrown a baby shower, she should be able to get a lot of new things too. Just make sure her friends (because of her age) don't buy stuffed animals, toys and cutesy clothes for the baby. Make sure they understand she needs real baby things!

Wal-mart is pretty cheap, and Once Upon A Child is like a thrift store but they only accept clean and safe products. They check everything out before they sell it.

I found tons of brand name great stuff at babysupermarket.com. They had all the stuff I wanted and really great prices.
