I keep getting an alert saying I have too little space left on my harddrive, and cannot surf the web, nor email without emptying the temporary files folder continuously, so I got rid of stuff I don't use too frequently, but instead of freeing space, it's taking up more...............what's going on with it? Does anyone knows???

Thanks for all the answers but, they're no help to me, as I already have done everything that is suggested below.
I have spyware, virus protection, but nothing it's helping. I have window ME, and only about 180 kb left, so I deleted the quick time program, restarted the pc, looked back only to find that I now have about 150 kb.............instead of adding space, it took more away......I'm lost.

Check your system against spyware attack by using a decent spyware checker, I use spy-bot search and destroy, as it is free, but I rather suggest that you get spy-sweeper. Spyware, and other kinds of malware, ie virus and worms, puts in lots of unneccesary files in your system, thus cause your woes. I also suggest that you download ccleaner, a registry cleaner, to remove unneccesary registry files. you could get spy-bot and ccleaner from downloads.com. read the manuals carefully before running them, so as not to mess with your system, butuseability wise, they're both easy to use.

ciao!

First of all is it a 98 are XP computer you have? Next it’s what you may have on your computer like big files and software's some software takes up a lot of spaces on your hard drive. What I think you can do is check your Local disk (c:) drive to do that go to my computer, right click on the Local disk (c:) box some words well appear go all the way down to the bottom to the word properties click on it a box well come up the first thing you well see is something looking like a pie with the COLOUR blue and pink the blues tells you how much space is use up and the pink tells you how much free space you have. Try doing a defragmentation on your computer. In the same box go to tools click on it. You will now see three button click on the one call [ Defragment now] it well help to compress your files and put them together when doing the defragment try not to use the computer until it is finish NEVER try using it while it defragging! and also try to Check your system against spyware attack scan your computer 3 or 4 times a week I like using Spy-ware Doctor and Symantec Antivirus also yahoo tool bar as a scan for virus button. Try this if you have windows XP

Click START
Click all programs
Click Accessories
Click System Tools
Click Disk cleanup

on box that comes up... click o.k. and it will take awhile to analyze your system... WAIT FOR IT!!!

a box will come up saying it can free up anywhere from 100,000;s KB to 100's of megabytes depending on how much junk is there.

Click OK (or Yes)
It will ask Are you Sure? Click yes or OK

wait for 5-10 mins until the box goes away

This should help you.
You might want to try disc defragmenter as well

Add more MB RAM in your computer, maybe you download more program or software, that’s bring your computer to little space. If some program you didn’t used delete it in Add & Remove program in Control Panel.

Or try to delete Temporary Internet File in your C Drive by clicking the My Computer, Right Click the C Drive then Properties, Click the Disk Clean then it’s automatically calculating all the Temporary Internet Files, click the Temporary Internet Files then Ok. Follow the instruction on your screen then its up to you if you want to delete it or not. That’s all I think!

Try saving photos, music or movies storred on your hard drive to a disc and deleting them from your computer completely, including the trash.

Try running disc defragmenter or cleanup (Start > Programs > Accessories > System tools) after deleting a lot of stuff too.

If none of that works, lower your virtual memory to save space (Control panel > system > advanced> performance > advanced > virtual memory.) This will make your computer run a bit slower though.

Make sure you also empty your recycle bin, and also delete the files in your TEMP folder.

You can use the Disk Cleanup Wizard (Start/Run - then type "cleanmgr" and hit enter)
