I forget the formula the Dr's use to decide whether or not they think you are a good candidate for tubal ligation. It has something to with diving your number of children and your age..something like that. You are young still even though you have 3 kids already they might still try and talk to you out of it. However ..if you insist they will do it. I had to talk my doctor into it since I was only 21. I had to sign a bunch of consent forms and things promising that I won't sue if I should come to regret it. It's your body..if you want it done..you can find I Dr. who will do it. However...be very very sure...even though I am glad I did it now..and was initially when I first had it done...I did a few years after go through a period where I got really depressed. I am over it now. But I am just saying be sure. Good luck..and congrats on your new baby!

Hi, I am 26, I visited my doctor when I was 24, after I had my 3rd child to see if I could be sterilised. He tried to talk me out of it, but I had made my mind up, I didnt want anymore children. I was eventually sent an appointment for June 8th 2005 and was sterilised, but just before christmas I found out I am pregnant yet again! So even if you have it done, its not guaranteed to work. I'm just never having sex again lol.

There isn't a specific age but most doctors would insist that you rethink your position because of your age. Things change with people. One minute you are for something and the next "bam" you have totally changed up your mind. Trust me........get on the pill or depro shot. In a year or so maybe...... I have 6 children and there where several times I wanted to have this done. But even with 6 the Dr still was apprehensive about doing it.
I am not saying they won't do it.......they just want to make sure it is what you really really want.
Sterilizing is easy. Getting unsterilized is definitely harder and way more expensive.

EVERYONE, and I do mean EVERYONE can honestly say that when they are 28 years old, looking back to when they were 21 - they would consider themselves to be: young, immature and foolish. It's not an "age limit" it's a "minimum age requirement" as in - it's a minimum level of maturity required to make a big irreversible life-changing decision; like not having children.

Pretty much it varies from state to state (if you are in the US). Although they will try to talk you out of it. If you are turned down for it why not try the Mirena IUD? It's suposed to be more effective than sterilization, here's the link: http://www.mirena-us.com/index.html

*This note is not to the asker*: Now to the person who is trying to tell people that after 3 children they "do it reguiardless" (steilization) if you are on medicaid. THEY DO NOT. They CANNOT. That would be completely illegal. It takes away the right to choose. Which everyone has. The can't even sentance prisoners who have killed their own children to be sterilized, let alone just people who are down on their luck. PLEASE seek an education who ever you are (there was no name under the pic).

Usually it's 21 and over; in some states, 18.

Talk to your doctor about it now, as there's usually at least a 30-day waiting period before you can get the procedure done. They can do it immediately after you give birth.

Don't know that there is a cut off age.. I had a hysterectomy in my 30's and the doctors didnt' want to do it. With you having 3 kids already, they might.. I think it's each indiv. doctor that makes that decision but I am glad that you have decided that 3 kids in enough..and not have kids, you are not ready for and can't take care of.

it all depends on where you live as to what the "norm" is. WHere i am from you only have to have counselling if you are not married and have no children and if you already have a child, if sinlge, two if you are married, they will allow you to get sterilized. But it is not something they do right away, unless you are having a baby then they will do it right then, but you have to talk with your doc about it weeks before delivery.
