I'll be using it for basic things like word processing, storing some pics and music(not too many though), and I plan to buy World of Warcraft. Should I get an XPS 410 or would a basic dell computer be enough? what do you suggest?

Everyone has different experiences with companies like dell. On the whole, they are a pretty good company and you can get a great deal. The biggest issue is to make sure you have a good spy-ware program, a good anti-virus program and a firewall to protect your investment.

In general, you should not need a super-computer to run the first applications you list. You will need a fairly large HD for the pics and movies. They add up fast. I suggest at least 80GB hard drive for your needs. More if your "not too many" increases.

With the World of Warcraft, you will need a better video card for that application.

So, will and XPS or basic dell suit your needs? Both would I believe. If you get the basic, add the additional components i recommended and you will be just fine. Most likely, the XPS will already be configured with those options. Check the price difference and make your choice.

Use a coupon. It will increase the value of your options. Check out http://www.24houredeals.com/dell-coupons-23-mer.html for the updated coupons for dell.com

Good luck.

Easy answer, don't get a Dell. I work in the IT department at a school and we got 35 new dell laptops and 5 of them had dead hard drives when they were replaced under warranty. DO NOT BUY A DELL.

If you want a cheaper computer get an Acer, I use acer laptops and have never had any trouble with them. I make my own desktops.

It really depends on your budget. The XPS is more expensive than a basic computer, but will be able to do more things without slowing down.

Since you are going to be playing WoW, I would suggest getting the XPS, but if that's out of your price range, then try to get the standard one with as many upgrades as you can afford.

Don't buy any thing from Dell, go to a local shop and get them to build one for you. Then if you have a problem you have a local person to speak face to face with.
