I am learning from my boyfriend and trying not to use my credit card for everything ... so, if you do, how many dollars do you keep in your wallett? For example, my boyfriend keeps atleast 100 in his wallet (and no not a 100 dollar bill). I am also asking how many 1's, 20's, 30's or whatever you keep in your wallett that can last you for lets say a week? Thanks everyone.

I try to keep 6-7 20's and whatever change is less than that at a time (about $150 in total), but I don't replenished it until I get under $40. Of course I use plastic for everything, except where they only take cash or the transaction is only a couple of dollars.
Even if you don't use credit cards, you should get and carry a debit card and use it everywhere you would otherwise use a check (a check carries lot of personal information whereas a debit card can easily be canceled and replaced and the money restored to your account if stolen or lost).
You should also use the debit card for as many cash transactions as you can as well. If you lose it or are robbed, you don't lose your money, and since the money comes straight from your bank account it is just like using cash.
In any event you really don't need more than one day's purchases in there.
If you use ATMs a lot and they don't charge you transaction fees, then you can keep only so much as you spend on the street or for an emergency .. maybe $50 total.
One more thing. I live in the suburbs and drive everywhere. I am not often on the streets, on a train, in dense public places, out in clubs .. really any place where there are lots of strangers, and it is hard to keep track of my wallet. When I am, I take better precautions such as moving my wallet to a more secure pocket, or leaving it in the car and only taking the credit card or paper money I need till I return there. If the money is going to be in your purse and you go to places where you don't have tight control over it, then keep your cash to an absolute minimum, as someone said, what you can afford to lose. (And by all means let your bf have the responsibility of carrying the money and let him pay for everything when you are together ... lol)

It's good that you want to cut back on your credit use, but I inherited a good saying: Never carry more than you can afford to lose. So I try to keep my cash down and use debit. Personally I don't like to carry more than $50 with me. It depends. 1 or 2 20s, and however many 5's and 10s I have at the same time. I'm canadian and we don't have 1 dollar bills, but I would carry a few ideally.
Try to figure out the balance that's right for you, but don't carry more than you can afford to lose. Maybe just less than what you think you'd need, but not too much that you'd feel it was okay to spend.

I don't carry cash for fear of getting robbed. If I did have any cash, it probably wouldn't be more than $50, and not a $50 bill, because lots of places don't except larger than a $20 bill. And when there is cash in my wallet, I spend it first, before I use my cards.

Really, they make a thirty dollar bill?!
I rarely keep any cash on me...I use my debit card for everything. If I do keep cash on me, I'll typically carry around $60 on me at any given time.
My father used to carry around $200 in his wallet at all times. Typically in 20's...the only thing that sucked is that when he broke the $20 and received change, his wallet started getting too fat to carry around in his back pocket.
How much money you carry really depends on how much spend in a week. Figure out what your average expenditures are...then fill up your wallet accordingly.

Only a few dollars. I use my credit card for everything and pay it off at the end of the month. I still spend the same amount of money, but I make money off the credit card company on their cash back service.

I keep about $10 - 20 maximum, and a lot of change (for meters) in my wallet.
I use my debit card for everything, plus I get cash back on my debit card purchases.

It depends. For general cash purposes I tend to keep around $40 with me.
I get a little more if I know of something I need cash for like laundry.

I would say about 100-150 dollars to last a week. Unless you decide to go shopping that week then i would say about 250 dollars.

I usually keep around $ 50.00 cash. But believe me it goes really really fast. It is a good idea to learn to manage cash and stay away from credit card debt.
I don't have credit cards, it's cash or debt card only for me. My savings account thanks me for it. Good Luck
