I've always heard that the baby will gain a pound a week during the last month. But don't freak out, I've had three kids and this scared me when I first heard it, I thought my baby would be be a nine pounder! It is more or less the truth, though. My babies would always gain a pound one week, then half a pound the next, then one pound, it varies a little. Of course the more you eat the bigger it does get. Just eat normally and healthy.

okay, i just had a baby and i can tell you for sure, since i just talked to my doctor about it. what's normal is for the mom to gain about 1 lb. a week, but the baby only gains about 1/2 lb. a week. towards the very end of a pregnancy, the mom quits gaining or may even lose weight, but the baby will consistently gain about 1/2 lb. a week until birth.

I do not know about the baby but my Dr. told me that I should only gain 1 pound a week. Anything more than that can cause me to have a c-cection becuase the baby is growing too fast. Also rapid weight gain can cause stretch marks.
