whats the difference between memory sticks, compact flash cards and sd cards.......is one better than the others? if so, why?

They fit into different slots and ports; none is "better" than the other, just different

They're pretty much the same, however, different phone, pda and camera companies such as Sony, have different choice of hardware. Use the one your gadget specifically need.

Regarding which memory card got the fastest data transfer rate, Compact Flash's a bit faster than the rest, but only with a minute difference.

Each manufacturer uses that which they have set as a standard AND which limits your ability to change to another manufacturers product without buying new storage capacity.

They are all roughly equal in capacity. Prices vary a little different based on supply AND memory sizes.

Go with the best camera and that will define your store media type.
