My dr recently called after getting the results of my 20 week ultrasound and said that i have complete previa, meaning the placenta is completly on top of my cervix, he advised pelvic rest and all of this, and said he will talk with me more at my next appointment which is in about a week. Im really nervous, has anyone had this and what was the outcome? This is my third child. I had natural births both times. My dr said there is a chance that it will move when my tummy grows more, can this happen? What are the chances of it moving? Tell me all you can please!!!! Thanks so much!

Hi, When i was pregnant with my first born, at 20 wks i also had complete previa, but the way it was the placenta was also in the front, which in the case of a c-section i would have had to been cut at the top of my belly. I was put on bed rest only alowed to get up to pee. Do what your doctor tells you, dont try to get up and do anything stay in bed. Having said that, i will tell you that as my pregnancy progressed the placenta did move and had my son with no problems. You will however have many ultrasounds to see if it has moved, and in most cases being this early it does. Best of luck.

I had a complete placenta previa with my second child. It was discovered later in the pregnancy and I was told that it would not move. Do not be nervous...just take it easy as the doctor said. I do not know what the chances are of it moving but I do know that if it does not move then you will have to have a c-section. All of this is very routine and it happens to a lot of women. You will be fine.

First of Congrats!! I had the same problem too about 3 yrs ago. I was put on bed rest and was told NO SEX. I was scared just like you, this was my first and the pregnancy was a kind of a shock to me at first and when things started to be okay, I found out about this, Mine was found at 18 wks, and by the time i was at 25 or 26 weeks they did another ultrasound and it had moved just enough, It might and it might not, just depends on how much the baby grows and your belly(thats my opinion.)When it moved just enough it stayed right there, it add a little bit more pressure to that side when I was in labor. My husband said jokingly that maybe it help me gaining a couple of extra pounds. Don't worry about at least the baby is healthy, keep that in mind..

Just to let you know-- a C-section is really not bad at all. I just had one, my baby was breech and I refused to let them do an external version (too many horror stories). I was up and walking the next day, out of the hospital in 3 days, and I got an extra 2 weeks off work for it! Plus, I didn't have to worry about them using foreceps or a vacuum to have my son, and they didn't screw that stupid internal monitor into the top of his head. My vagina is still completely intact, I didn't have to worry about an episiotomy, and my lochia flow was much shorter because most of the blood was sucked out during the surgery. Honestly, i think a c-section is easier than a vaginal birth (but I've never had one of those, so I can't compare).
Don't worry, and Congrats!

Follow all your doctor's advice. It is highly important that you stay on bedrest, have your doctor help your husband and those around you understand that you can't lift or do anything until the doctor gives you the green light. I've known people who gave birth to perfectly healthy children who had pp, but the condition is nothing to fool around with- it's not just the baby's health, it's yours. I'm sure you'll be fine- I know it can be scary to hear things like that from doctor, but just follow his/her advice and you'll be great! Congratulations on your pregnancy.

Early days yet for you. I've heard from my doc that it can move. Else prepare yourself for a c-section babe! 1 out of 3 won't be too bad!!! Good luck.
