I've bought a pewter money box as a gift but it has no makrings on it, should it have something, like silver or gold does?

Don't think so. It's not a precious metal. It may have a makers mark.

No. Pewter is an alloy of tin and copper with lead sometimes added for a bluish colour. Only precious metals (gold, silver, platinum, rhodium etc.) have hallmarks.

The Hallmarking Act only applied to gold, silver and platinum.

No i don't think so. I didn't think pewter was classed as a precious metal but what do I know!
