I don't know or care about the celebs but black nail polish was in back in the 60s and 70s and as history repeats itself, it's back in again. We used to wear it around Halloween of course. I wear it now every once in awhile but jazz it up a bit with some color on the tips of the nails. I find some of the other colors out there more nasty than basic black. Everyone to their own of course.

Black nail polish has always been around when you really check it out, its just that more and more people are starting to wear it.

I don't like black nail polish/varnish/whatever, but i do like all dark colours, like chocolate brown and dark purple. i think they are quite sexy. I must admit though, black does look rather tacky, and on the wrong colour skin (pale) it could look a bit gothy, and yeah just tacky. I don't think it will last long as a trend either, bright bold colours are much better!!

xx

Yes, is DEFINITLEY in - just the fact that Chanel now sells black nail polish (selling like hotcakes!) proves it ;)

"Summer 2006
High Fashion, Part II
Chanel introduces Black Satin ($18), whose limited-edition status virtually ensures the kind of waiting-list frenzy that greeted its legendary 1994 Vamp."

and its STILL in...

I like it with a coat or red polish over it so its not so harsh.

no, black nail polish is not "in" anymore. In People magazine, black nailpolish was noted as a 2006 fad along with skinny jeans, and skulls.

I think it's cool. I used to wear it in college, when I had long black hair too, and black lipstick. Urban decay was my favorite brand. Haha. I actually hadn't noticed it on celebrities, though. I thought they were wearing a very deep red color.
