You should not carry your SS card with you. Put it in a secure place. If you lose it, you are more susceptible to identity theft by whomever finds it.

HELL NO!!!
In fact, just for your information, technically it is not even supposed to be used for any identification purposes; I dont know about new cards, but this mandate appears on older s.s. cards that were issued many years ago.
The real original purpose of the card number is that it is your social security account number with the gov't.; it's where your S.S. deductions from your payroll check are deposited and where S.S. payments will be paid out of when one retires.
Later on some wise guy decided that the number should also be used as a number for businesses, and credit grantors to track a persons personal debt, consumer credit profile, history and rating.
Further more, if asked for the card number as i.d. by anyone, even only the last four digits, legally you dont have to furnish it! (except initially when applying for credit, housing etc.)
Even prospective employers legally cannot require it before hiring you unless the want your permission to check your credit history as a condition of employment.
Hope this helps.

The Social Security card is not to be used for identification. It says so right on the card. Best thing would be to leave the card at home in a safe place. All you need is the remember the number because any one who actually needs to confirm it will do it by computer anyway.

No. If anything it should be illegal if you DO carry it. You need to memorize your social security number. Don't carry the card with you. And don't put the number on any of your ID's!

You do not have to carry your social security card with you at all times. Only when your employer needs it for verification. It is a pain in the butt to get one replaced so you best keep it some place safe and secure.

The only time I've carried my social security card was when my employer asked to see it, to confirm my social security number. That's it. In 47 years, only once has someone asked to see it.
So, I'd say there's no need to carry it with you.
P.S. I look enough like a Latino to be mistaken for one.

NEVER carry your SS card with you. And never give your SSN to anyone unless they are paying you. To do otherwise is not only foolish but can cause you much legal, financial and emotional jeopardy.
A few years ago I was told, by my state police, that I would have to give them my SSN to renew my Driver's License and that if I didn't I would not be allowed to renew. I refused and I still have my Drivers License but many people in my state of 20M or so did give the State their SSN number. Too bad for them. Hooray for me!

No. It is best not to carry it with you incase of theft. Any person who recovers your card will have open access to identy theft. You should memorize your social security number and only carry your card when you need it (i.e. applying to employment, etc.)

Not at all. In fact, most people do not carry it with them for fear of it being more easily accessible to thieves. You are supposed to have some form of photo ID on you though.
