I really need to save some money and make some things myself and some nice stuff to pass on, is there anywhere I can get a good sewing machine and make payments, I don't have a credit card and can't afford to pay outright, at least not for one of those nice ones.

industrial sewing machines last forever with very few repairs needed.some singers are over 100 yrs. old and work well....talk with an industrial machine dealer--who primarily caters to upholstery or drapery---tell them what you want to do with a hint that you want to go into business eventually---many times they will help you get started, thinking they will be able to sell you more fabric, thread, tack hammers, compressors, staple guns-etc. & etc.industrial machines are much faster than home machines....tell us what city you are in--maybe i can help you---we live in florida--retired---and have a couple of machines....but if the city you are in is close to one of our old contacts possibly we could help you there.....

You can find classes at stores that sell sewing machines (Joann's, etc.) - I think it's like riding a bike - you don't forget. The only thing you may find is that you don't have the patience anymore for the little things - like pressing tiny corners. I would also offer this advice - if you are buying a new machine, do not buy a cheap one. There is nothing worse that a cheap sewing machine. It will drive you to drink and end up making you hate the sewing. Consider buying a good sewing machine an investment. Think Bernina or Husqvarna Viking - it will be worth it in the long run.

Visit your local sewing machine dealer and ask if they have any trade-ins or unclaimed repair machines. You can sometimes get a real bargain on a good older machine and the dealer might throw in a warranty and some classes to boot.

Sewing is not necessarily cheaper than buying clothes these days. Fabric can be quite costly and there is the investment of your time. But if you want to express yourself creatively, it's a great hobby.

Not sure where you are located, but I bought a Singer brand sewing machine for $100 at least 15 years ago and it still works like a charm today.

They are inexpensive but of decent quality and can be found everywhere from Wal-Mart to department stores like J.C. Penneys.

Great question.

Unless you are going to spend a bundle, you don't want a new machine. They have plastic parts and don't last long. Try and get an old model. I love my old sewing machine and wouldn't trade it for a new one. You can pick one up at a garage sale or a thrift store. You could even try freecycle.com

No more layaway at Walmart. They stopped doing them at Christmas.

Yes Walmart has a layway department. And good sewing machines.

call a sewing machine repair place and ask them if they have any abandoned machines that they could let go for cheap.

if you want to save some cash, and even more by not paying interest on monthly payment, take up some knitting classes.
