Couple questions about this:

1 – I read in the manual that you’re not supposed to paint or put stickers on the helmet.
I’m sure that certain paints might do some damage, but aren’t there paints out there that you could use on a helmet and be fine?
If so, what kind of paints should I look for?

3 - i got one with graphics (sort of) with the bike...is that a problem?

2 – I’ve seen a few good custom motorcycle helmets on the internet, but if anybody as any links to some, I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks a lot

I think your biggest concern is going to be gettin good adhesion. As far as the paint affecting the effectiveness of the helmet in a crash, I wouldn't worry.

Youe best bet would be to call your local auto color (paint) store and ask them. They will want to know what you are painting so if you don't know about the material of the helmet you might need to take it up there. You may also need an adhesion promoter to use as well as the paint to make sure ti sticks well.

Your concern with the graphics (decals), I assume you are wondering about painting over them. I wouldn't. It'll most likely look bad and you'll have a hard time getting the paint to stick well.

Call and/or go by a local body shop or auto paint store and ask te painter there. Take the helmet with you.

I have and know a ton of other people with stickers on thier helmets. It doesn't seem to be doing any damage. My helmet's only about a year old, but I know people who have had the same helmet for several years and it's fine.

You will need to use a water based paint. Any paint with any type of solvent will weaken the material the helmet is made of. As for graphics, if they are a decal, remove with a heat gun, if painted, sand and paint over.

Anything, just don't use thinner, i even sanded my racecar helmet(which i wouldn't use a coarse pad, just enough to de-coat). I think by using the helmet your adding to your odds of safety

You can't paint a helmet because the paint will flake off.

You can only paint fibreglass helmits, not plastic composite or poly....... as the paints will re-act with the plastic and will make the helmit weak....

reading the manual is a good thing you will rarely see that here. Complying with what it says is even better
