nationalized healthcare and the other 50% be used for national defense? Just an idea. What do you think? And drop the IRS altogether and go to a national flat tax rate?

I would support a flat tax or national sales tax.

Completely stupid idea. Do you think that all your current tax dollars go for nothing but defense? Are you going to do away with all of the other programs and expenditures that are currently in the budget?

On the other hand, I'd be all for a national flat tax rate or a national sales tax. The sales tax seems reasonably fair...you are taxed based on your consumption of goods and services...as long as the rich can't sidestep it by buying goods and services outside the country.

The government would go broke in about 2 seconds.

Flat taxes aren't really a good idea. On the surface they seem simple. Everyone pays a certain percent of what they make. But consider person A making $20,000/yr and person B making $100,000/yr. Say each pays 30% in taxes. Thats $6,000 for person A and $30,000 for person B. So A has $14,000 left and B has $70,000 left. A has to spend practically all their money to scrape out a living. B has extra money for luxury purchases and investments, meaning they can use some of their $70,000 to make more money (money, when invested, makes money). So in the end person B is losing less than 30% to taxes because of their investments, whereas person A is shafted since they have no extra money to invest!

If A payed less taxes, they could invest their extra. If B payed more taxes, it really wouldn't be a big deal to them. They would still have money left to invest and play with.

And just so you know, my salary is above the national average, so I actually in favor of myself having to pay more taxes! It just makes mroe sense that way.

Well, Communism never brings any nation progress or growth. The government is taking all of your money, and until they stop, IRS will always exist. But on the other hand, its a very democratic question. With such a dramatic decrease in income for families in poverty, would force these families to live at the health care facilities or join the military to survive.

That's just about what Denmark does with health care and everyone is covered from birth to death, working or not.
