How many times do you need to wash before it becomes soft? I bought my son a new comforter for christmas and he says it is too rough!

Try putting it into the washer and add a cup of white Vinegar let it soak about an hour
spin out
Fill washer again using detergent and water wash as usual

Is it printed? Sometimes the printing is alway hard and scratchy. We went to the plain cotton comforter and then add other elements of decorations. Obvious answer but use extra softener.

Use a different brand of soap and put fabric softener in the rinse and put softener sheets in the dryer.
