You probably can't get them back, you should have backed up your files.

Assuming that the files are really gone from your hard drive (it may be possible to recover), you have two choices:
(1) Copy the files FROM the iPod back into a fresh install of iTunes. The latest version lets you do this. Or, there are third party programs.
(2) Apple will, once, let you get a recovery of you files. Contact their customer service. This is a once/lifetime policy and it's not guaranteed. Officially, you are responsible for your own backups.

if you have the songs on your ipod, you can simply copy them back into your harddrive. (well, not simply.because of the copy rights, you cant clearly see the songs in your ipod.what you have to do is to make your browser see hidden files, get into your ipod and find music there.there'll be alot of music files with weird names like 3skw5 but they are actually the songs in your ipod and their names will be original once you put them back into your itunes.)
and about the songs you downloaded directly from itunes;you can download them again for free;itunes gives you 3 chances to download them incase you lose them.

Well, if the music is on the ipod, get a program (sorry) called sharepod, put it on your ipod and you and you can send songs from your ipod back to your computer, otherwise, you are just reimporting your cd's/
If you purchased them through itunes, contact apple and they should be able to assist you with that.

are they gone from your itunes music library? i mean, check under My Music> iTunes> iTunes Music and see if they're still there.
if not, then are they still on your ipod? you need autosync OFF before trying this, or it will sync to your library (everything gets erased because it's not in your library anymore). then enable disk use on your ipod, enable viewing of hidden folders (in a folder, go to Tools>Folder options> View and click view hidden files). Then go into ipod_control, find the music folder, and copy that to your itunes music library. then your songs will be back!

I don't think there is a way to get them back unless you backed your files onto a disk. Maybe you should keep that in mind next time.
