Yes. Housing discrimination is (almost) always allowed by a person's occupation, so long as that's not a proxy for discrimination by race, age, ethnicity, religion, etc.

I don't know about NY, but I have heard of people unwilling to lease to an attorney.

If you're thinking about refusing to rent on this ground, though, SEEK LEGAL ADVICE FIRST! Because the last thing you want is a discrimination/unfair housing suit against you by an attorney when there's an obscure New York City local housing ordinance protecting them.

As long as it's not based on race, religion, sex, the usuals, you can discriminate in other ways. Like if they smoke, if you don't like the way they keep their car, if they have lousy credit, etc...

Why on earth would people NOT rent to an attorney?? I've never heard of this! That's gold, they have tons of cash! I'd rent to one in a heartbeat!
