What can I use to hold plastic up to my windows to keep out cold air, that won't strip paint after removal?

I tried using clear package tape in one of the bedrooms, but when I remove the plastic from the wall(outside portion of window), it pulls off the paint which doesn't look good. What can I use to hold plastic over my windows, nothing fancy and preferably cheap. Windows will be replaced next year to keep out drafts, but that doesn't help me now.

Painters masking tape will suffice.

Thumbtacks or staples, easy to fill holes nad repaint if necessary.
