little chefs were (very sadly) a british institution! it was the greasy spoon king!
However this was all very well and good in the 80s when fast food and quick fixes were all we wanted, but we never really realised the effect all that grease would have on our health.
As the 90's progressed we found that the fat clogs our arteries and that microwave food has a horrendous amount of additives, and all of a sudden we want salads!!!!
Welcome break see a gap-open lots of shiny services with vastly improved food and hey presto, we all wanna eat there.
this left little chef looking out dated and dirty. they tried to re-brand it by slimming down the little chef himself (which just looked odd) and finally the company had to admit defeat.
I loved the little chef as a kid but everything has a shelf life-it would have cost unthinkable millions of pounds to bring little chef to a standard where they were able to compete with the bigger sites on the motorways (they were mainly based on A roads) and as a result couldn't compete.
It was great whilst it lasted, but its time is up. The same will probably happen to the welcome break when the government decide salads and sandwhiches are linked to cancer and heart desease!!!!
The little chef closed at the right time-it will forever remain a fond memory for everyone of my age, therefore the legend will live on!

There was one in our area and it's a shame that it had to be closed. they did one better than roadside cafes and transport cafes. I went in a little chef once and the food was tip top.

We're actually dissapointed that they're shutting. We used them quite often, we liked the meals and they were ALWAYS cooked from fresh, you could see them cooking on the griddles beside you. So i don't know where these other people got ot from that they 'nuke' the food?? They were value for money too. Made a nice change to just drop in on one. We've been to many. I can't see why so many people have got 'downers' on them, they were actually nice places to go.
