Let him have input when you make decisions, even little things. Ask him his opinion of things, show him that you care what he thinks.

I respect the fact that you are open for suggestions.
See this:
- Always show him your interests in the things that he loves.
- If he is into sport, get excited about it and tell him you want to watch a game with him and make a big deal out of it.
- If he is into music, admire his interests and ask him to show you his collection, then ask him that you love to listen to it.
- Family:
If he is having good relationship with his family or one member, support him by having communication with them. Remind him if he forgets to call them in some occasions.
When you meet his family, let him see how much you appreciate them and respect them.
- Culture:
If he is from different culture, than this is a very good opportunity to show your curiosity to learn about it and ask questions that show him how much you want to be involved in his life.
- Job
Ask him questions about his day at work, and when you listen to him; do an eye contact, and show your involvements in the discussion. Be always a part of his daily routine.
- Body language;
When he comes in from outside, receive him with a big smile and make him feel welcomed. In addition, if you arrive before him, try to make the house look nice with some candles, nice aroma around the house, low music and be excited because he is in.
- Respect his privacy and individuality.
You have to let him know that you trust him, and he is responsible for his actions. If he decides to meet a friend in a coffee shop, support him and wish him fun & good time.
- Problems or Misunderstanding:
If you have any argument between you and him, discuss only the issue that you are arguing about. Many lovers will jump from one fight to another by reminding the other part, like this: remember last month when we were at your family house & you said that…… (avoid doing that). Look for solutions not problems.
Stick to the issue you are facing and use kind tone when you talk to him.
Moreover, through the discussion keep telling him every 3-4 sentences that you love him. Show him that arguing with him does not mean you that do not respect his opinion, but it means that you are only trying to understand each other.
- Your self:
Tell him about your day and ask him for his opinion. Show him that his opinion worth thinking of. In addition, you will consider it. Let him be a part of your life.
So, use every chance you have to express how much you admire him and how proud you are having him in your life.
Tell him how special and unique he is.
This magical act of love and caring will work.
Everyone needs to feel special, unique, and important.
It worked with me successfully and it will work for you.
May God bless your love and his.

Men who constantly demand to de "respected and honored" as you say see themselves as weak and powerless. Their only recourse to get what they think they deserve by virtue of being born male is to demand it, rather than command it. Men who are accomplished, educated, make good salaries and have highy successful and respected careers do not have to demand anything. They've earned it. If you have to constantly worry about ways to show fealty and respect to your man, your man isn't worth it.

If he is still your man you maybe doing the right things!!!
respect comes naturally do you respect yourself? that is the
question.... Don't be a ***** to him...but also if you feel
that you are right about what you are discussing then stick
to your guns and try to make him see things from your
point of view...but remember for this to work both
parties have to be willing to compromise...

Its fine to show him respect. Just do this by being nice & thoughtful.
But DO NOT defer all control to him. This will be the biggest mistake you will EVER make. Just remember, you're your own person; you don't need another person's permission to be happy or live.
Respect should go both ways, remember that too.

Fluff his ego. That's what he's probably wanting anyways.
Have him define respect. His definition might be different from everyone elses. And dont give it unless you feel he deserves it. Respect is earned, not given.
