As I have asked previously about extreme hip and lower back pain, people where helpfull with info on the topic. But to follow up I was wondering if any women out there had thier OB prescribe pain meds during the last bit of pregnancy? What kind of meds did you take? And did it have any affect on your preganacy. This is how I look at it. I am already high risk for preterm birth. My last pregnancy, my water broke from what the doc thinks was high stress and anxiety. Now this pregnancy I have this unbearable pain, that I fear could lead to the same senario again. My over bearing mother inlaw (bless her heart I know she only tries to help) thinks that my OB is endangering my baby for no reason. But if true, why would he prescribe pain meds if he knows not to? I would rather trust my doctor than a woman, that yes has medical training (only with people who are dying) but nether less does not know lick about pregnancy's.

In my 2nd and 3rd trimesters with my 3rd and last child I had horrible sciatic(hip and leg)pain. It did lessen in the last couple of weeks of my 3rd trimester, but during the height of it, it was terrible. My OB prescribed me Vicodin and Flexeril. Both were well monitored. She explained that both, unless taken in very high dosages, don't cross over the placenta, and therefore can't harm the baby. Trust your OB, they do know, but get a second opinion or even 3rd, from other OB's in your area, it will help alleviate any fears you have.

A good friend of mine took hydro codeine in her last trimester of pregnancy because she couldn't sleep and she had restless leg syndrome. Her baby girl is beautiful and in the top 90% of healthy babies. Just think how strong codeine is. So I think you are more than okay! Good luck!!

I took muscle relaxers during the end of my pregnancy (flexeril), although my doc really watched me.

Your doctor can get you some tylenol 3. They are safe. I took them when I had my wisdom teeth removed durring my last pregnancy.
