You'll have to see a solicitor. In the eyes of the law, you aren't legally married. You could be entitled to half his debt, you know.

You were married under Sharia Law. According to such, as a woman, you have several entitlements and restrictions:
As a bride, you were/are entitled to a bridewealth. This is a sum of monies or assets given from the hubby to the wife. You are not required to return this under mainstream Sharia. If your hubby refuses the divorce, you can approach the Islamic authority which married you and seek judgment. In some cases such as abuse, the Judge may grant separation.

You cannot divorce because you are not married. A marriage is only valid in the UK if it is registered with the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages.
So, you've been cohabiting only and are thus entitled to ... nada!

I'm so sorry but you are not legally married unless registered at a registry office. The best thing to do would be contact a lawyer who specialises in this sort of divorce

the uk law says that if you have been living with someone as man and wife for over 12months you are entitiled to 50% of all property but if the buisnesses are all in his name and were bought before you were married through your religion then you may not be able to get anything from them but you are best seeking advise from a lawyer just to make sure
