You can't afford to NOT have the ducts cleaned. Have you thought about renting a machine and doing it yourself?

Take a look at the return air ducting to make sure that it is not open anywhere. When it was installed the installers could have poorly sealed it/connected the return ducting. This would cause dusty attic air to be drawn into the system. Worse, that dirty air is clogging your evaporator coil which will cost to have it cleaned and could cause damage to the equipment. Is you house sealed fairly well. If the blower is stronger, it may be pulling more dust into the house than the previous blower did. As air is pulled in through cracks it passes through the house, landing all over your furniture, before it makes its way to the filter to get caught. Is you filter getting dirty very fast. If so it is doing its job. If not, the dirty air is getting around it somehow.

It's not the furnace. Here is a couple of ideas I use all the time.
1. Clean your ducts with a shop vac. After that, they make filters that go just under your vent/grills. If they don't have your size, you can make them yourself by cuting the material to fit.
2. Check your filter. Installed wrong. I see it all the time.
3. Where is your clean air return for your furnace? By a door/window that allows dust in? In the basement/crawlspace. That could be a good reason. We cover them during construction because sheet rock dust will blow throughtout the house if we don't.
4. You can also have a break in one of your duct lines and it will pull in dust from crawlpace/basements. Sometimes you will even smell dampness.

Hope that helps......

The first question that comes to mind, is Does the filter you currently use have a HEPA filter built into it? This type of filter helps to remove those extra smalll particles. It is usually located after the main filter, in the airflow direction. This allows the standard filter to remove the larger particles first, giving the HEPA filter a longer life.

Next question.... Where is the dust coming from? For example, if you live near a farm, or on a dirt road, you could be getting a lot of dust from those outside sources...sometimes even tracking it into your house on your own clothes, etc.

Another source -- your vacuum cleaner -- many vacuum cleaners aren't as efficient at capturing dust as they like you to think. While they will pick up dirt from the floor, many have such poor containment systems (bags) that they allow fine dust to blow right thru the bag and back into the air.... and then it settles on your furniture. I would see if I have more dust on my furniture an hour or so, after vacuuming, than before. If you do... a simple and effective correction is to switch to a better vacuum cleaner. One with HEPA filters built into it, for example, or the newer 'bagless' cleaners.

Good Luck

You may have a duct loose or an air return problem.
The 5" filter should be replaced every 6 mo on a 4-5 ton systems and every year on systems of 3.5 ton or less.

check to make sure your filter is properly installed...if so it may be that you will have to either get your ducts cleaned or do it yourself
