if he is drinking this much now, i can't help but wonder how much he will need at say....3 months? I'm not saying it is bad. my son turned 1 month old yesterday, and he is full after 2 oz. every 3 hours. he went to the doc. last week and she said that was good. he was 7lbs 11oz. at birth now he is 8lbs. 1oz..
he should have a doc. visit coming up. i would just check with him/her to be sure.every baby is different. congrats on the new baby!

6 oz is not too much - as long as he doesn't eat it all at once and puke it up 10 minutes later. If that is happening it is too much and he needs a better burp about halfway through.

I have 4 kids and only one is a boy. I know it is stereotypical but my son is the one who ate like a pig from day one. I nursed at first so I don't know how much he was taking but by 10 weeks when I tried him on a bottle to go out with my husband, my sister told me she had to use up 2 bottles (they were 5 oz. each) and he took most of the second one so it was about 8-9 oz of breastmilk from a bottle.
It is too early for cereal. Years ago they used to give cereal really young and now that is what they say could be causing so many of today's young adults to be gluten-intolerant. Cereal isn't recommended until 4-6 months because infants' digestions can't handle it before then.

He is a healthy boy. You are blessed!

He is much too young to begin cereal or any type of solid food. Breast milk and/or formula is all he needs nutritionally until he is about 6 months old. A general rule of thumb that can be used is 2-21/2 ounces of formula per pound of body weight each day until he weighs 15 pounds. This is just a general rule of thumb, remember, and he may require more or less depending on growth spurts which are quite common in the first years of life. 3 weeks is a common age for a growth spurt. What happens if you offer him only 4 ounces? Does he get hungry sooner or cry for more when that is gone? 4 ounces every 4 hours is pretty typical for a one month old baby. I suggest that you cut him back to 4 ounces every 4 hours and see how he does. If it is not enough, go back to the 6 ounces as that is what he needs at this stage of his growth.

The health department recommends between 18-30 ounces a day from birth to 4 months old. If you son is eating more than that, I would ask the doctor about it. I wouldn't lessen his feeding any unless they Dr. tells you to do so. Yes, it is way too early for cereal. I hope this is of some help.

If he is doing that even at night, just before bed put RICE baby cereal in the milk, just enough to thicken a little. I used 4 ounces to do this and he slept for 6-8 hours for me. During the day, feed as needed. He may stop eating so much for a little while and then start it up again. My son would eat alot, then slow down, during slow down, he grew, sometimes a full size change. (He just turned 20 and is 6'5" and weighs 195#)

It may be a bit on the excessive side. But he's probably going through a growth spurt; babies know when to stop. Cereal usually doesn't start until the baby is 4-6 months but all circumstances are different. Check with your doctor.

It's fine, my son was drinking 4 oz every two hours so that's about right. There's no need for cereal at this age. Food allergies and diabetes's may develop at any age before 4-6 months. Continue with just the milk.

Do not start him on cereal. Infants should not start on solids until they are at least 6 months old. Before this, their digestive systems are not ready yet. The general rule of thumb for how much formula an infant should have is to double their body weight. So if your son weighs for example 10 pounds then he needs about 20 ounces of formula every 24 hours.

I know everyone else said it isn't to much, but if he is on formula he shouldn't have more than 32 ounces in a day. My doctor is a little more relaxed and started my son on rice cereal when he was 4-5 weeks old because he wanted to eat so much. I started my other 2 children on formula with rice cereal around 4 weeks also. Talk to your doctor, they all have their own opinions.

I would say that he maybe going through a growth spurt so I wouldn't worry about and yes I believe it is a little too early for the cereal. You aren't suppose to start them on cereal until 4 months but I gave my daughter cereal at 2 months.
