Only 36 weeks they may keep sending you home for a while longer. I was at 1cm for 2-3 weeks and stayed that way, i also went a week over my due date. The contractions started but dilation never progressed on it's own. The induced labor with Patosun, not sure how it's spelled. But i did begin to dilate and the contractions were so bad they actually offered the Epidural! I was only 3 cm. Sometimes it doesn't help and they will perform a c-section but only if they have to.

You can be dilated like that for another few weeks. The 100% effacement just means that the lining of your cervix has gone from thick to paper thin, so now you're starting to open. Could be a few days, or longer.
Walking helps, and there are some squatting exercises you can do to try to get the baby to drop, but sometimes nature is just slow. Ask your doctor if you can take warm baths to ease some of the pain. If your water hasn't broken, you can also have sex (with protection so you're not introducing any bacteria) which might bring your labor on quicker. You just have to make sure you climax.

Each time you start to contract start walking. The doctor can give you something to sleep but you may wake up with more that a restful sleep. If you can walk off the contractions then its a pretty safe bet its false labor. You still have time to go. You are in the waiting stage. You may have heard stories about women drinking castor oil, taking bumpy rides, all kinds of things to get the baby to come early. Be patient. Good luck.

The first pregnancy labour is always the longest and hardest...you're effaced already at 36 1/2 weeks which is kinda early...considering full term is 38-40weeks...
You can try walking a little more, and get some more nookie...that'll speed up labour.

What you might be experiencing is Braxton Hicks. Braxton hicks is your bodies way of practicing for the real thing. It feels like they are the real thing. My doctor had told me that what I should do if I feel them coming on that I could go and drink some water. A Lot of the time that will make them go away. Your body will slowly open up through the rest of the pregnancy. Just try to take it easy and relax. Your body needs as much rest and relaxation to finish the process. Congrat's on baby.

there really isnt much you can do, walking will help you dialate but only if your body is ready. i walked a mile everyday for 3 weeks and i stayed at 1 cm the hole 3 weeks... well my husband got sick and we didnt go walking for a couple of days, and within those couple of days my body desided it was ready, when we started walking again, i was walking for just a couple days and i went from 1 cm to 3.5 cms... ever since this its been moveing a little faster... not fast enough, but its pace is picking up... 36 1/2 is still a little early so your body just might not be ready yet. good luck. i know its painful.

The real answer: nothing in your control. Your cervix will either expand or it won't and you'll either have the baby naturally or you'll have a c-section.
All you can do is not worry about, be patient, try to work through the pain and let your doctor make the call. If you only have a midwife I'd go see a doctor and get a licensed OB/GYN to help you through this.

You aren't goint to dilate until your baby is ready to born, which is likely not for at least another 2 weeks. Next time you are contracting try drinking a large glass of water and laying on your left side for a half hour, it could just be that your uterus is irritable.

Hang in there....my friend was dilated at 3 cm for 3 weeks.
The longer you keep that baby in there, the healthier it will be.
Docs will absolutely not do anything until you reach 38 weeks.
Stick it out for another 1.5 weeks, then make the doc help you out somehow.
