the drivers's license exams in as many as 30 languages? Do you agree with this or disagree?

When my ancestors came here, they learned to speak English. I see no reason to change that way of doing things. You want to live here, you learn to speak the language.

Other countries look down on Americans who visit them because the Americans want everyone to speak English. Americans are wrong about that, THEY need to adapt.

Similarly, when others come to America, they need to learn English, the ONLY official language. If you don't want to learn, don't move to the US.

By the way, is Klingon one of them? If not, I will be very unhappy.

My state was admitted to the Union as an officially bi-lingual state. We also have 21 Indian tribes with 11 different languages. To offer the driver's license exam in a different language is fine IF the applicant can read English road signs. Having the actual examination questions in another language does not trouble me.

being in the US legally on a H1B visa and having become proficient at all the hoops you have to jump through to get visas issued and renewed I do feel for those who feel that have no choice but to come here illegally to earn a living...but should we give them a drivers license? the answer has to be no and who in their right mind would apply for a license if they were here illegally anyway? If the government (at any level) issue them with any sort of ID then they know there are illegal immigrants in the country so surely they have to deport them, right? Again, sorry if you are illegal and living here but I had to go through the process of doing this the proper way, why should you be excused from that? I hope the immigration process is given some sort of focus in the new administration and I don't mean a blanket "illegals out" but something that will truly help keeping people who deserve to be here to work for their slice of the American dream but that also manages to keep the undesirables away.

Yeah, that's a bunch of nonsense. President Teddy Roosevelt was absolutely right when he said every American ought to have to learn and speak English. Without a national language to bind us together, and foster commerce and unity, America will eventually decline. We're seeing that now because a couple generations ago our fellow Americans failed to see the wisdom of TR's remarks just as most Americans today might perhaps.

The question here today is, many years from now, sitting across the dinner table from your grandchildren, will one of them accuse you of letting them down just as previous generations of Americans let your generation down? In other words, what are you going to do about it?

I disagree for the simple fact that if a person cannot pass a test in English, how can they read road signs.

why not. america is supposed to be a beacon for oppressed people. what if they dont speek english. there isnt much on the road that cant be read fairly easily enven if you dont speek english. OR you dont speek it very well and youd rather take it in a language your better at.

and bythe way, america has no offical language. guy above me

The exam must be offered in French and Arabic, otherwise we'd see no Prius-driving liberals on the road.
