What people seem to forget is that the American Bald Eagle could never fly with just a left or right wing. It needs both wings to be equally strong in order to fly straight and high.

Hmmm....I am to the far left. I am an American. I don't believe in protecting terrorists. I don't agree with a war based on lies. I don't agree with paying more taxes than someone with a six figure income. I believe in a fair America, where everyone pays their fair share. I am pro life because I feel an individual has the right to make their own decisions regarding their bodies. I DON"T believe in abortion as birth control. I don't believe in the gov't supporting unwanted children. I believe in education...real education, not the dumbed down version that's out there. I believe in an America for everyone, not just the wealthy few, not just the conservatives, not just the liberals.
If the media and the gov't didnt believe in keeping us divided, who knows what we might accomplish? The conservatives with logic and rational thinking, the liberals with big dreams and the drive to accomplish them...people, we NEED both sides to succeed. Don't you see, the gov't WANTS us divided. Why don't we do something different and TRY to LISTEN to one another instead of bashing each other? I am always willing to listen to an intelligent argument.

It's the old strategy of "If you aren't with us, you're against us." You can thank our current president for using those exact words in his first post-9/11 speech. Since then, the President, and those who feel they have to defend his opinions, have used divisive tactics like this: "What? You oppose the war? That's unAmerican! You must be a liberal!" Notice that this now implies that ALL liberals don't just oppose the war, but are also unAmerican. It also starts to imply that "liberals" are some sort of dehumanized enemy - much as how politicians used the word "communist" during the 50s and 60s. Never mind the fact that this country was FOUNDED by people who had their own opinions, and wanted to live in a country that allowed them to express themselves without government persecution! Seriously, you could argue that NOT opposing the government is more "unAmerican" than what most politician idiots do - just sit there and nod their heads for fear of being branded "unAmerican" by their equally weakminded peers.

All the infighting most definitely makes us more vulnerable - it appears that the liberals want us to lose the war, conservatives want us to stay, the anti's of each want the opposite of both - it's a real mind swirl just trying to put it all into the right category - & therein lies the whole problem....shouldn't we all fall under one main heading Before all the sub-categories ....We should all be American first! To want our country to be defeated in a major conflict, is not political, it's disgusting. Yes, mistakes are made on all sides, but we can't go back, we can only work together to find a solution in the here & now........If everyone would put their energy & intelligence to work on a plan for victory & then redeployment.....we could've been victorious a long time ago!

The problem is that we have let the political parties separate us. They no longer push an agenda they only push anti-agendas.
That is what has divided the country, we need to foster compromise and working to solve this countries problems instead of getting everyone to hate the other side.
We need to take the money out of politics in order to accomplish this. The parties are all about money and power instead of being about what is best for the country.

I believe that the fundamental differences are not the end goals, but the perception of the best way to go about achieving them.
The republicans/conservatives tend to believe in the free market and believe that the private sector and market forces should take the lead in making things happen and the extent to which the federal government should be involved is to provide tax or other financial incentives to encourage private investment in targeted areas.
The democrats/liberals tend to believe that the way to achieve things is to have the federal government take direct control for the administration of huge federal programs and that those programs should be funded through a progressive tax scheme designed to "level the playing field" where the "rich" are penalized for earning too much money and the poor are given the lions share of federal program benefits.
There is such a thing as irreconcilable differences.

Well, fundamentally MOST Americans want the same thing. but then there are the extremists on both sides of the spectrum. The money mongering righty tighties, and bedamned those lower class that get in their way or are mutated by their toxic refuse. Then the loopy lefties with their "unwashed hair, and unshaven armpits" their veganness and uber-love for all creatures wearing potato sacks and declaring holocaust for cattle. (Stereo-typing, I know) Then you have the 98 percent that's left. Unfortunately for us, because money is where the power is, that 1% of righty tighties IS the ruling class for all intents and purposes...they run the show through their lobbying forces, campaign contributions, and general bullying. Now, soooo many complain about the "loopy lefties" but really their power is impotent unless heard and realized by the masses as containing an iota of truth, this is where ethics comes in, and the righty tighties are not allowed to completely bulldoze the masses. Unfortunately, as of late, our great bi-cameral system of government has taken a turn for the shady. And though they speak one way, they act another, which has everyone up in arms choking, biting, and blaming the others for the worsening state of our nation. What is needed is not a peace accord between the dems and the reps, but an evolution of thought.
I consider myself liberal, and I believe in a strong military, fiscal responsibility in government, and then I also believe in helping thy fellow man (i.e. universal healthcare) and environmental stewardship. I love our troops, one in particular more so, and love what this country used to stand for. As of late, I ahve to say I am a little disappointed at what our elected leaders have accomplished. For those of you that state you are conservatives...what has this administration done for you personally, except to breed a hatred of terrorists? (for those of you belonging to the top 1 % we know what you got) Not more money (except top 1%), not decent healthcare, not even better education for our children, not one definitive piece of legislation was passed except for the No child left behind Act which is the biggest underfunded joke of education legislation ever enacted.

Yes! So true!
We need to provide a united front, of diverse ideas. The infighting within our politics needs to end. Keep the debate going, but stop trying to "defeat" the other side. Both Democrats and Republican politicians are guilty of this partisan behavior.

Apparently, we don't always want the same things. But, isn't that what makes our country great?
Terrorists hate us for our freedoms, including our freedom of dissent. Drives them nuts.
Take "The Satanic Verses" for example. I've never read it, and don't plan to. Here, we view the book as freedom of speech. To a terrorist, it's blasphemy and the author, Salaman Rushdie needs to be killed for it.
If we didn't have political disagreement, you might as well put an end to half of talk radio, along with half the cable news outlets. Is that what we really want?
