In general introductions should
- start with an opening sentance that is catchy (maybe something about how many people shop, but are they shopping at the best store)
- then give a little (couple sentances) of background about the topic (why it's important)
- then discuss directly the topic of your paper (comparing two department stores, name the dept. stores)
- and then lay out the points you covered (that are listed above) in the order you discuss them in your paper

Your opening paragraph should be based on the overall paper. If the stores are strikingly different in most areas, then write about how the department stores are not alike. If they're mostly the same, do likewise.

Example ... Though Wal-Mart and Target project themselves to the public differently and, likely, see themselves as unique in the world of department stores, the reality is the the two are alike in almost every way for consumers.

The shopper stands between two stores, credit card in hand, looking for a new outfit, which store shall this shopper choose to spend their hard earned money? What will be the determining factor of the many that could include: standard or custom design, pricing, brands, atmostphere and service?
