The very first president, General George Washington. He was branded a traitor by the English government.

Good catch on the "British" government technicality. Sad, I'm English too! (or am I British? Ahh, school wasn't my strong side). About the 15 or so prior rulers, although they were considered 'presidents', their office was not part of the Executive Branch in which we consider the presidency today. In fact, the word president only appears once in the entire Articles of Confederation (the predecessor to the Constitution)

Sorry about this- just had to correct you. British Government, not English. Yes, i'd say George Washington- All a question of points of view. He would be wanted for treason and probably other crimes against his former government.

- though it might be worth researching the 15 or so 'presidents' that ruled/represented the states while under British rule. Just a thought.

Probably none of them. Even if any of them were arrested, Presidents usually come from elite familes who would simply buy them out of thier troubles. Thank you for your question, and I am happy to help.
