You know those face make up bases/primers? Do they actually work?

Makeup primers are primarily for those special events like weddings, when you needs your makeup to last the longest and look best. On every day occasions it really isn't necessary. It also depends on the face primer you get. MAC has a really good one, and so does Dior. ALways try them out at the makeup counter and get a demo done on your face before u buy, and walk around for a while , so you dont bring it home and end up disliking it or having a reaction. Good luck!

oh my god, i used to have the oiliest skin ever, needed to blot on the HOUR, and my makeup (even minerals, and even with a finishing powder) would slide off/fade away anyway.

i've tried:
Clinique Pore Minimizing Instant Perfector
Smashbox Photo Finish Primer
even Monistat anti-chafing, and Philips Milk of Magnesia (both recommended on www.makeupalley.com as primers).

the Clinique was the only one i really loved, since it definitely did what it said it did: reduced the appearance of my pores. but then a week later, i had a terrible breakout.

lately i've been using Fruit of the Earth Aloe Vera gel under my makeup, and it's AMAZING! dries to a matte finish, "fills in" my pores, creates a smooth surface to apply makeup, and best of all, reduces my oiliness. plus it doesn't break me out (like every other primer has)!!!! Aloe Vera, unlike the other primers i mentioned, is known for being good for the skin. and this stuff is only $1 for a little travel sized bottle at Target!!

i absolutely love it.

Yes, if you use a concealer under your eyes and on blemishes then put on foundation it really does work! there are also green coloured primers which tone down redness in your face, they dont go on green but they also work! Primers are meant to make your make up last longer, if you dont have any imperfections, dont waste money on one, just use a good moisturiser before applying your make-up!

Yes they do. Especially the ones that have a silicone base in them. They glide onto your skin and help to fill in the lines or enlarged pores. This gives the makeup a nice base. It also helps to even out imperfections like any discolorations in the skin pigmentation.

I've never heard of make-up primer, it's not like you're getting ready to paint a car. You really just need a good coat of moisturizer under your foundation and you should be just fine.

I would think so....or I'm just wasting ten dollars!

Really..it does work. I'm using Lumene Face Makeup base...your make up goes on smooth and lasts longer. If you have oily skin, this stuff controls shine and believe me...I have somy oily skin enough to cook an egg!
