What were your thoughts on it? Was it boring? (I'm trying to decide whether or not to read it)

I have it, started it, didn't finish it. It has nothing to do with how boring the book is or is not. I think he is a great author, what happened is that I got Dish Network last year and my reading went way downhill.

Just so you know it is not fiction, nor is it easily digested like Narnia. It is autobiographical and philosophical...which can be a tricky blend. It is NOT boring but it is meaty and needs your attention.

If you are looking for an incredible read by Lewis, try the Screwtape Letters. If you don't know, it is a series of letters between two demons. One demon is a newbie and the other is his uncle and mentor. It is all about how to "dismantle" a Christian. It is "the enemy's playbook" so to speak and not only entertaining but startling. I felt like what the demons are talking about is very familiar, you just hadn't thought of it that way before.

Do read it. It is a lovely book. I find it very moving that a man who had spent life happily until well into middle age living a bachelor existence in academia should be so swept off his feet by his love for a kindred spirit. At the same time it is the story of his spiritual journey. His tale is told with great candour and deep feeling. Here's a link which allows you to dip into the book to see whether you are going to take the plunge into a most enjoyable read. http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:Lk1aGIE66xcJ:www.crossroad.to/Excerpts/books/lewis/surprised.htm+surprised+by+joy&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=6&gl=us
