Every other sport gives home field advantage to the team with the best record (except for baseball via the all star game results which is dumb) Why not football? It's supposed to be an all weather sport isn't it? What's your thoughts?

With all the planning that goes into this event, they need more time than they get between the playoffs and the superbowl

Logistics basically. And the fact that baseball, NBA and NHL are much older than the Super Bowl marketing concept -- which comes from a blending of the 60's competitive leagues (AFL vs. NFL). Think about it: besides worries about what cold-weather can do to a field & affect game-play (and the TV product of clean uniforms & cheerleaders looking better/wearing less in warmer temps)...the Super Bowl is many-times the event of any other sports' finals. The betting is about $20 billion now (although illegal, the point-spread is in 99% of USA's media), then there's viewership that's so wide that they can charge millions per 30-second spots. There's so much $$$ in that one Final, it's unimaginable -- and so many sponsors' & fans' travel plans, car rentals, parties, 'escorts' lined-up, etc. etc. that it would be impossible to arrange with 2 short weeks after the Championship round. Think if this was in Chicago or Indy, and the bitter cold and possible white-out, snowstorms and how that would affect on-field, off-field and home viewership, etc. The NFL isn't baseball. Look at the popularity of NCAA football and the Heissman Trophy vs. other sports, and college is basically a FREE training-ground for the NFL at that... there's nothing like it, and it's all a controlled chaos (with Big $$$ being spent and offered by the host cities anyway). They even consider doing it this way, for baseball from time to time, for the quick 10s of millions -- but the fans wouldn't fly from NY and Boston to Miami to watch their home team, they would be outraged.

The Super Bowl is the single biggest sporting event in the country. Giving the NFL just two weeks to prepare, not mention booking hotels, flights etc would be a logistical nightmare and the product would suffer as a result.

The NFL and host city start organizing and planning for months before the SB to ensure that everything goes smoothly.

The next biggest event is the NCAA Final Four. Same deal with them.

The Super Bowl is not only for the NFL to decide who is the best team, but it is also for the fans themselves. The Super Bowl is always preferred in warmer climates, so the fans don't have to sit through cold weather and snow while trying to enjoy one of the largest sporting events in the world. Also, giving unfair advantage to one team would upset many fans. Since the Super Bowl is only one games (instead of seven, like the World Series), the NFL just chooses random stadiums with teams that aren't likely to get to the Super Bowl that year.

The superbowl is the biggest game of the year, so they want to make it fair for both teams by not having a field advantage for either the colts or bears, I guess it's just the way of the game, but that does answer your question, it's always been like that in football.

I think it should be played at the stadium with the best record of the year. I am such a Patriots fan. They have won 3 superbowls and I am just proud of that. Even though they lost this year I am still all for them. I will be sad on Sunday when I don't see the Patriots playing but I can always hope for next year can't I?

By the time you learned who would be in the SB you've got 2 weeks to plan it. Not enough time involved and besides the idea that the championship game is played on a neutral site is a good idea.

Because the home team would buy up all the tickets, also the two week off wouldn't be enough time for sponsors and planning from the previous year.

that would be an advantage to the home team, and they play at a different stadium to make the game as fair as possible.

For one... people need to make plans in advance to attend the biggest game in all of professional sports. Its only one game- where the rest of sports have a "best of" series.

Because they want the weather to be nice and having it in Florida most of the time ensures it. Also it's only ONE game, and the other championship series are a series of games at both the home and the opponents, so it's not that biased.
