It seems certain people have stereotyped him into the Harry Potter character & are all up in arms about Equus, not realising Dan is legal in Britain & is a young actor. The public seems to want to own him, not wanting him to do anything else. They don't seem to realise that Harry Potter, December Boys & Equus are three very different things.

They also don't seem to realise that this is not Dan's first nude scene. (Please refer to the precious Harry Potter charcter in the bath in GOF. Sure we don't exactly see all of him & yes he apparently wears something that is NOT shown on camera so the audience is left to assume...) Or perhaps they're just being prudish...failing to remember that we were all born naked & that every actor/actress eventually has a scene like this. And Dan's not the first Harry Potter actor to do this. Most of the others have already "been there done that" kind of thing.

The sooner everyone gets it that Dan is an actor, not just Harry Potter, the better.

The main problem is that people are looking to actors, actresses, ball players, singers, etc.etc.etc. to be role models for their children.....and that is not what these people are. They aren't role models for your children or for anyone else, they are merely people that have gotten a break & chosen to be in a particular line of work that brings them into many homes via music, movies, etc. These people didn't sign on to be role models - it isnt part of their contract....Plainly parents need to be role models for their own children. The way it used to be. For as long as they can blame everything and everyone else for the things that are going wrong in their kids lives, then they themselves do not have to accept reponsibility for their lack of parenting.
You are right that people need to wake up & realize that TV isn't the best place for your kids to base their choices & behaviors, it's pretend..Just as the storybooks of our time were - pretend.

The thing is that a roll such as Harry Potter is soo popular that everyone is familiar with it. Once someone takes on that role they are identified as him plus there have already been four movies with him in it, so it's not just like you've seen him in one HArry Potter movie, but in a way he is THE Harry Potter. It will make you feel good to know however, that Daniel Radcliff is actually in a play right now that im pretty sure is on broadway.. i cant remember the name but at least he is doing other things!

It's good to break the mold before you're completely typecast. (Bruce Willis used to be a comedy star, nobody thought he could do action until Die Hard came out; Hugh Jackman's first role after playing uber-bada$$ Wolverine was the romantic lead in Kate & Leopold).

Bear in mind the people that are freaking out over this are the ones whose first encounter with Daniel as a thirteen year old boy. Somewhere in their brains he is still a thirteen year old boy. (Harry Potter will always and forever throughout eternity be a young boy/adolescent, no matter how old Daniel gets. Until he has enough jobs under his belt to be Daniel Radcliffe and not 'that boy who played Harry Potter' people will always feel a little awkward about 'Harry Potter' being naked on stage)

More disturbing than this though is the number of adult female friends I have who read the books (and loved them) thinks this gives them tacit permission to lust after Harry Potter. (Believe you me, it's not Daniel who's got them all hot and bothered). Granted they only discuss the older Harry Potter (from the last book) but still . . . . ewwwwwww.

Besides, people always get way more squeamish about male full frontal nudity than female.

Hope this helps
Incidentally, we're all born screaming too, yet it is considered very bad form to scream at the top of one's lungs in any venue. Unless you're Oko Yono

Parents and particularly American parents of children who are Harry Potter fans, can't separate the actor and the character and probably neither can their children.

That's why the call them actors folks, they become the characters they're given in plays, movies but they don't REMAIN those characters for their entire lives.

That's why alot of child stars and movie actors lose their careers because casting agents and some of the public can only see them in one type of role.

It's quite sad actually for the actor but especially for the public because they won't allow an actor to grow up or just grow in his craft.

Daniel knows he has to grow as an actor and he has to prepare for post-Harry life.

I don;t know if I would have chosen such a demanding play as Equus (as he is on stage naked for a long time), but he is willing to take a chance.

He has been typecasted by younger generations as a savior and his new role in the theatrical production of Equus is far from what they think he should do but it's ridiculous.

Cause people typecast actors, that's why. They only see an actor for a role they played- that one defining role, and that's it. Its gonna be hard for Daniel, or the other kids in that series, to break out of their roles.
