Check out Corfu and Crete. They have a variety of lodgings, beaches, towns and you can probably find something that would interest you.

With the exception of Mykonos which is by far the liveliest islands I would say all the islands and inland coastal areas are fine for families.

I would suggest Crete. It is one of the nicest islands and rich in history. Visiting the archaeological site of KNOSSOS will leave a lasting impression on both grown-ups and children. There are tons of excellent priced charters going back and forth from all over the world directly to Crete. Upon your departure, you can always stop for a day or two in Athens, which is the cherry on the topping before returning home. Choose one of the hundreds of hotels situated right on the beach. "Holiday" also applies to Mom and Dad, and dragging tons of stuff to and back the beach in the relentless heat is not exactly a holiday. Whereas stepping out of the hotel onto a golden sandy beach is.

Don't get me wrong about Mykonos... it is one of my favorite islands, but as it is the gathering place of eccentrics and jet set, The result is a very colorful and loose atmosphere which can be very impressionable on young children.

July and August are the hottest months in Greece. They are also the months when most Greeks and foreigners take their vacation. Athens is at it's most comfortable peak as many residents are on their vacations, and the tourists are all on the islands. The majority of islands are packed and at their most expensive period.

Whereas, the months of June and September, the islands are a lot nicer and less noisier.

Naxos ! Depending on the season you can have more or less tourism ( = how crowded places are ) and higher or lower prices . In every case , if you have a family stay away from the well known and busy islands of Mykonos , Santorini etc . In Naxos theres enough history and beaches to keep you interested , places for going out and restaurants as well as sports and other activities .

Do not look to much at Islands but resorts. I know Island that have resorts that are inappropriate for families while other resorts are great for families.

If you are from Europe, your best bet is to go to your local travel agency. A good one should be well informed which resorts are good.

If you come from elsewhere I suggest and you want to visit many Islands, I suggest you do not look at Islands but island groups. Going to Corfu, then to Santorini then Rhodos is time consuming and tiresome. There is a group of Island in between Greece and Italy (where Corfu lies) in the middle Aegean (Santorini, Paros, Naxos) South-East Aegean (Rhodos, Kos). All of them are good and all of them have their own charm.

I believe that Lesvos (you may also see it as Lesbos or Mytilene) is the best Greek island for family vacations. It's a large island (3rd in Greece) and you have a lot of things to do.

Though you should have at least one week to spend and I would reccomend you to split your accommodation to Plomari and Molyvos (Mithimna).

Fantastic place for holiday, if you've got kids then try Kefalonia, Kos, Rhodes, Crete, Corfu, Lesvos or Lefkada. All have water parks , boat trips, etc. Friendly people, great climate, good food and a stressfree environment. My favourite place to holiday.

I agree with Fiona on Mykonos - it's a lot of fun, but it's just not a family atmosphere.

Also, Santorini, while absolutely gorgeous, may bore the kids.

I'd go to Crete, Corfu, or Kos.
