After years of the marriage being over why do they think you still have to take care of them. That you owe them when it is them that left??

Because our courts are really messed up.
Where is women's lib when it comes to taking care of yourself? Oh, women are all strong and equal to men...until they leave you. Then it's all about how helpless they are and they need to steal his hard-earned money to get by.
If being a housewife is such a horrible job, then they should be able to be someone else's maid and cook and earn their living that way. They love to claim that the work an average housewife does is worth hundreds of thousands a year. So, let them use those skills to go make money!
Sounds fair to me.

Excellent point, Shaft! That figure has always bothered me. They cook a few meals a week, so they add in the salary of a gourmet chef. They drive the kids around and they add in the salary of a chauffeur. They clean and do laundry, and count up the money you'd pay a professional cleaning service. They write out a few bills, and say they deserve the same money as a professional accountant.
If they have all of these skills and can do all of these jobs at the same time, then why aren't they all millionaires? I sure would be!

From experience learned the hard way (and from talking to to others), women generally put a alot more into a marriage than men do. Men (and I am a guy) usually go into a marriage with the mentality that a marriage will just run "on cruise control (if you will)", while women actually do a much bigger percentage of keeping the marriage together. There could probably be volumns written on this subject, but I can say this -- when (and if) I get married again, I will definite put my 100% in!

I was the one who left my ex and he used to call me all the time to wake him up in the morning for work, figure out his bills, etc... When I got remarried, he gave me problems about paying his child support and tried to trash me to my new husband. There has to be a limit and you just CANNOT be nice anymore, I dont care what anyone says. I gave my ex the house and a car and took the kids and got the he** out of there.
So its not just women who do it. Men are worse, I think. They are big babies when you leave (like their mommy deserted them). If you are complaining because of child support, too bad. My ex thought because I left him that he shouldnt have to pay for his kids. Some people just need to grow up.

Because people are lazy selfish jerks. I hate when women divorce men and then want alimony because the husband provided them with a better lifestyle. well too bad. you knew that when you left them and why should they have to continue to give you a nice lifestyle? go get a job and provide yourself with one. i understand if there are children involved and they may have been a stay at home mom or something but besides that. just get divorced and move on.

some people think they own you and that you should not have a life of your own. not everybody is the same but a lot are. my husbands ex is crazy and she wants to be all in our life even though they dont have kids or anything. We finally had to change our numbers and put a restaining order against her. Some people cant move on.

They want to believe they were the one who was maligned. That you owe them for help with school, house, etc. They are just people with low self esteem. Just don't buy into their rantings. Let them believe what they will and don't be involved with them.

Usually it because you "wasted" the best years of their life, or because she was the stay at home mom, who now has no employable skills and can't support herself. If you are refering to child support, its ur kids too. Then there are those who got married just to screw the man out of his money. If you feel something is unfair go to the court and explain what you think would be fair. GL
