This is a puzzling question. I have discussed it with a few other residents here at The Hidden Urban Gnome Reserve & Sanctuary (http://www.geocities.com/gnome_reserve) and we aren't able to form a solid opinion on why a Human would yearn to be a Gnome. For that matter, we can't form a solid opinion on why a Gnome would yearn to be a Human.
