Most beautiful place on the southeast coast. Rainbow Row (hit hardest during Hurricane Hugo) is named that b/c each house is a different pastel color.

In front of the "row" is a large beautiful park with a bunch of weeping willows and pathways, cannons and statues - and lots of pigeons.

In front of the park is the Battery, which is a long walkway along the sea. There are canons that sit several feet back from the wall, which is how Charleston used to defend itself from attacks by sea (legend has it - LOTS of pirate attacks!).

I don't live in Charleston but it has been a goal of mine to move there one day. If you like a city steeped in history (and haunted as all get out) this is the best.....

The only thing I will warn you about is walking in sandals during the summer at night. No joke - palmetto bugs (roaches) run across the sidewalks while you're walking and the climate just breeds them.

Best of luck to you.
