Hiya Suhnrise. Up here in Ontario, Canada, we rely on a groundhog called Wiarton Willy. To-day he didn't see his shadow. Drats! I love to ski. See ya.

Humans need and enjoy rituals. A ritual like Groundhogs Day makes us feel like we have some kind of control over the weather, especially during a time of year that is traditionally drab and cold. It also allows us to be silly and celebrate something inconsequential. Putting a little magic and silliness into the world is a good thing, especially when the world seems like a scary, violent place sometimes.

We don't rely on a groundhog to predict the weather, it's just an old tradition that - for some reason - some folks still enjoy. I wonder sometimes though - who's more accurate, the groundhog or the weathermen?

We don't rely on the rat...or groundhog. It's just an old German myth. And as for Santa.... Just you and a few others left Santa alone. And before anyone gives me the thumbs down. Think of this. Yes, I believe in Santa Claus.. I can see him at the Mall
I have NEVER seen god. and I grew up talking or praying to God.

he's fantastic and ultimate one hundred% of the time. possibly he's conservative? absolutely everyone who has ever been to punxsutawney can delight in this relaxing-filled, over 100yr custom. it somewhat is a happening that no robotic rendition of phil might desire to ever replace. and for animal fans, understand that phil is dealt with like a king.

I feel, and again, this is only my opinion, that we still continue this practice because it's been a such a time-honored tradition, one of which we even have listed on every calendar.

It's fun, magickal, and something which we do look forward to (because most people are counting the days until Spring arrives).

Have a lovely rest of the day.

Who relies on on a groundhog for weather? Its just for fun and most adults, if not all adults know it is just for fun.

Cute and Fun. Why would we want to spoil the fun? If people enjoy the tradition, good for them!

I'm glad that the media has something to talk about other than death, war, famine and celebrity love affairs. It's a pleasant diversion for a day.
