Alot of people think that over 100 countries and 1000's of scientists are in on a conspiracy - perpetuating this idea so that we will be able to purchase some solution - a scam similar to that of the 'Y2K bug'.

All that's being suggested is a reduction of emissions, that is: REDUCE what we consume and since consumption costs us money, it also means to spend less. What kind of idiot thinks this is a scam? Please explain.

I agree about the Y2K fiasco... it was not a scam - people truly believed there was a serious problem. But nobody forgot how some took advantage - billions of dollars were spent fixing a non-existent problem.

But in this case, it's different: there are still organizations cashing in with "offsetting" but this money isn't spent in a frantic effort to avoid catastrophe, it's simply meant to ease the mind for doing what people know is unacceptable. Offsetting surely is a scam - so obviously a scam that it cannot be why climate change is being addressed as a serous problem. So why the conspiracy theory? Who benefits?

The Y2K bug was not a scam, well not inheriantly. It may have been exploited by some and the effects overstated by others, but many systems did need to be modified to account for the change in the century, I know, I've written in the past, software that needed to be modified.

Suprisingly many large coorperations are finding benefits in becoming "green" or sustainable. WalMart for one, in an attempt to reverse it's recent negative image, has relized tremendous savings by cutting down on excess packaging etc.

I think the major reason for people's disbelief is that large coorperations along with various govenments disagreed with it for economic reasons.

No one thinks it is a scam or do they believe that we should keep CO2 emissions high. All I ask for is that it be based in real evidence. Everyone I know agrees that Global warming is real. It is the Cause of global warming that is under question. The evidence does not support the conclusion that it is man-made at this point. Having a scientist who already subscribes to the theory do a peer review is not good science. Remember the Scientific Method in school.
A hypothesis is formulated and then tested and repeated over and over with reproducible results. Then and only then is it accepted as a theory. The scientists that support that man created global warming have just skipped a few steps and then say but we reviewed it ourselves, and believe its true! This isn't science and if you weren't so busy calling me an idiot in my question you would see that I base science on reproducible results. This is what the politicians keep skipping and the media keeps reporting as if its true. A hypothesis is based on observation and man-made global warming is still at that point. No reproducible evidence has been put forth to deny that it is not a natural phenomenon, and yet people are producing propaganda movies based on observation alone. This is piss-poor science and needs to stop for the sake of everyone and if it continues, the results will be disastrous for everyone and for the US especially!

I was on here pointing out to someone when the snow melts in Oklahoma we think it is warming up.
Call me crazy but it usually is.
When we see ice burgs melt and fall into the ocean that has been there for thousands of years. I have to think it must be warming up.
I'm not scientist but that doesn't seem hard to figure out.
