I am a democrat and had great hopes for Gavin Newsom but now that he has admitted to having an affair with the wife of one of his friends, I am sadly disappointed in him and his betrayal of a friend (and campaign mgr.) The wife was also one of his aides and he put the city of SF at risk for a sexual harassment lawsuit with a subordinate. Now I wonder if that's the reason his wife divorced him shortly after he became mayor and everyone was well acquainted. Sex and the affair was wrong enough but to betray a friend like that is something one can't forget so easily.

I think she really (the woman he had the affair with) wanted publicity when Nesome dumped her. It wasn't her first affair, and it was his.

Newsome said he was in the throes of divorce when it happened, and that the affair did not cause the end of his marraige.

(There are some excellent articles about the affair and its affect on Newsome in the SF Chronicle. You can read them on line.)

Guiliani did the EXACT same thing (including betraying a friend) and he has a good shot at the presidency.

Americans forgive divorce and adultery very easily, if the person does a good job in office. It will blow over for Newsome.

Shouldn't his personal affairs (No pun intended) remain his own?

I think it's business that should remain between the parties involved. Same thing with the Clinton administration and all the trials and reports and overspending and mud-slinging that went on there. I think the money being spent on prosecuting philandering politicians would be better spent on feeding the homeless or helping the single mom with 3 kids get a decent education.

My thinking is this...

1. What he does outside the office is his business.
2. To try to hold a politician to a higher moral standard than the general public is absurd in my opinion.
3. It doesn't matter that they're liberal, democrat, conservative, or republican. They're all politicians and therefore cannot be trusted.
4. In reference to #1, it's none of our business.

Wow, you need some mental health assistance, figure out why you would put yourself into a situation with your best friends girl. And considering making a child with her. What are you thinking? You need to move on and get a clue, find someone who is available for a relationship. Why would you want life time ties to a female who is cheating on her significant other with his best friend and trying to produce a child. How selfish, of her and you should think more of yourself and your friendship with your best friend. Wow, if this is how your treat your best friend, I can only imagine what you would do to someone you dont like. What a friend. God bless****

I was just reading about this on the news. I think, whether Demo or Republican, it is messed up. Not only did he betray his friend, he betrayed their marraige. The wife is a flooze and I pray her husband leaves her and totally screws her over. The Newsom guy lost a lot of peoples' respects, regardless of which party he belongs to.

How surprizing is it that two people who work so closely with each other and spend nearly every waking hour together, had an affair? I would gather than this is how most affairs occur.

He's a liberal Democrat. How can you be surprised? That's what they stand for - whatever feels good, do it. Don't worry about who it hurts because all that matters is your own feelings and agenda.
