Windows Live is basically the new version of the MSN services - therefore, although the features have been revamped with the replacement of MSN, they're still pretty much the same.

Windows Live, is a messenger service which allows you to communcate through IM (instant Messages). So its practically a direct conversation with someone i.e a Live Chat. Yahoo has its own version too. Windows Live However does use your Hotmail address for login purposes and contacts. Hotmail is just the Microsoft free web e-mail tool.

I hope this helps.

Hotmail is just free email; Windows Live has tossed-in other software similar to Office - word processing, calendar/appointment tracking, etc. that you can fetch from anywhere you're connected with your MS logon
