Simply sprinkle some cayenne pepper around your garden where they have been congregating. If they get that in their snoots they will think twice about coming back to your garden again.

We had a problem last year, they came for food we put out for the birds, as soon as we stopped putting it out - they disappeared. If yours are still there they must be using your garden as a place to get to elsewhere that has food - they are never far from a food source. Environmental health is where I would go next.

You could try this pest control device, it sends off a electric noise, which suppose could get rid of rats and mice and it safe around cats and dogs, it available to the public, ive seen it advertised in the national papers and it not expensive

I'm from Texas mam. And I say you need a gun. Hell every law abaiding citizen needs a gun. It's your right.... well it's our right.
Nevertheless, I'd get a good pellet or BB gun if the noise would cause isue with your law enforcement, if not, get a .22 and sit out there with a bucket of bullets and.... get good with your gun. I wish rats would come to my garden. Nothing shoots like a moving target.... especialy if your trying to miss the tomatoes!!!. Please be carefull you dont poison your animals by exposing them to a poisoned dead rat.

there are more rats than humans , when we had bad floods in 1996 the rats came up out of the sewers and have never gone back down . they have got it too good up here with the amount of litter left lying around . i bought wheelie bins and reduced the number of rats around my house . i killed 8 in one day once by drowning them . there is no deterent but sheer hard work cleaning up and getting a terrier type dog which kills them is what i would reccommend . good luck .

we had the same problem last year, the only way managed to get rid of them was by buring them out, i know its not nice, but neither are the rats especially when you have small kids running around the garden.

A large oil drum, put food in the drum, and a piece of wood from the ground to the top of the drum, guaranteed they will be in there the next morning.
Your next question will be " I have a drum of live rats anyone know how to kill them?

Put poison out (some really strong stuff) up high and keep the cat out of the yard for awhile.
