The government has the responsibility to coin money and to regulate international commerce.

According to the Constitution, the government has the responsibility to coin money. This is a critical economic mandate delivered to the government. Unfortunately, our government has chosen to delegate this critical duty to a group of private bankers commonly referred to as the Federal Reserve. The FED has badly abused their authority and threatened our money system with their blunders.

Another critical responsibility is to assure Americans that the government will always work to the best economic interest of Americans when involved in international commerce. Again, our government has chosen to delegate this duty to NAFTA, CAFTA. the IMF,the World Bank and a lot of other initials.

As a result of these derelictions of duty, our government has placed the majority of Americans in a perilous economic position, while insuring a relatively few rich Americans will get richer. Its all so sad and decidedly un-American, but our government has engineered the decline of our country with their greed and ineptitude.

It really depends on who you ask and what the system is.

Hayek would say it's to remove barriers to trade, then get out of the way.

Smith would say it's to enforce contracts and levy protectionism in some, very limited, circumstances.

Keynes would say it's to correct downturns and upswings.

Greenspan would say it's to control inflation.

Friedman would say it's to get out the way altogether.
