The new era of professional grading is a pain in the *** and an unnecessary expense to old school collectors. How can I sell my cards from when I was young without going through the effort, or is there a cheap way to have them graded? Can you even sell ones that aren't graded or are not Mint condition?

Take a look at a site called ThePit.com. Sports cards, both graded and ungraded, are bought and sold there and, for the most part, buyers do not take possession. Instead the cards are left in your account and you never even see them. That means two important things. First, condition is less important. As long as your cards are at least near mint they will be accepted. Once accepted, they are no longer classified as being in any particular condition. Second, it means that when a buyer buys a card, he or she doesn't have to pay shipping costs (unless they ask for delivery, which is always their right) so the cards themselves become more valuable. The only thing I caution you is to make sure they list each card before you send it in. They will not accept cards they do not already offer. Take a few minutes and read up on the site. Its a pretty novel concept, allowing you to invest in sports cards much the way you do in stocks.

The overwhelming majority of stuff produced in the 90s (perhaps over 99% of it) is worthless. Adjust your expectations accordingly. Aside from autographs and memorablia cards, the stuff from this decade isn't too good, either, although they are somewhat better than the stuff from the previous decade. Ebay is the way to go, but list in bulk (maybe each binder can be a listing), don't put endless hours into the listings, and don't spend money on Ebay listing upgrades that are expensive.

Go to your local card shop and ask them what they'll give you for them. Very little trouble, though you won't get much for them.
