children left to their own devices. no orders or suggestions given to child unless they specifically ask (which is not often). Is not actually recommended by anyone (just studied) as they tend to be very agressive and tantrum throwing - though they can be surprising well behaved at school -probably because it is one place where they have guidelines and controls. being allowed to get awy with anything you want is actually quite scary for a child.

In economics it means let the market decide so in child development I guess it means minimum rules and allow children to develop their personalities by freedom and experimentation.

The opposite of a controlled economy or a disciplined child rearing environment.
