Try using https:// instead of http://
I know it works at my school for gmail (https://mail.google.com) and most other sites as well.
(By the way, there can be legitimate reasons for wanting to get through filters. Our school blocks e-mail providers, and as the editor-in-chief of my school paper, I need them to do my job.)

I think your spelling will be first obstacle to over come, that said.
LEAVE THE FIREWALL ALONE the barriers are there to keep kids or inexperienced users from downloading virus or porn or illegal info, that the school does not want to spend hours to days cleaning up.
Have nice day and surf from home.
