My son is almost 6 months old. His appetite has really decreased. I nurse him in the morning before work and in the afternoon after work. His nanny gives him cereal with one ounce of formula and a bottle of pumped milk and then he gets a bedtime feeding of formula. He used to drink about 6 ounces or 20-30 minutes of nursing every 3-4 hours but for the past month he has been satisfied after 5 ounces or up to 10 minutes of nursing every 5-6 hours. He seems content all the time and only gets fussy when we try to force feed him. I'm just so worried that he isn't getting enough milk. He's wetting diapers and has tears, but most of all he's happy. What's wrong? Help!

Ok is he is happy he is fine. When did you start cereal. Cereal is a good filler. Dont worry my daughter is 6months too and she drink between 4-6 oz depending. Cereal is probably to blame, but dont worry cereal is good, it gives this carbs that they need. As long as he is happy and gaining weight he is fine. If he goes though a rapid loss of weight call the doctor. but he seems fine to me from what you have said. Aslo if you give him baby food it takes the place of milk too. there tummys are small and the more you add to there diet other than milk will make them fuller. Good Luck, all of us moms need it.

I breastfed but never really pumped so I don't know how many ounces but I would say that your son does need more ounces in each bottle, I'm guessing closer to 6 ounces since I remember once pumping and my son downed 4 oz in a few seconds when he was much younger. I breastfed on demand which could have been anywhere from 1-4 hours at this age. My kids also slept through the night at this time so I no longer had to night feed but I think it's good you're following up with the lactation specialist and pediatrician and it is a good time to start solids. You're right that he obviously seems okay if he's sleeping well and not fussy all day long. My kids were always on the small side so I wouldn't worry too much. Good luck!

The most important things are that he's content, meeting developmental milestones and is peeing and pooing enough. I wouldn't worry about the length of time nursing. He's probably gotten more efficient at nursing and can take more in in less time. Just bear in mind that at 6m, even up to 1 year, about 99% of nutrients should be from breastmilk
(or formula). Just make sure inferior foods like cereal aren't replacing breastmilk (or formula). Solid foods including cereal should be in addition to breastmilk not a replacement for it. Good luck! It sounds like you guys are doing great!

Around 6 months old they quit growing as fast as the first six months. If he's happy and wetting his diapers thats all you need to worry about. Don't force feed him. That leads to childhood obesity. You shouldn't disregard his feeling of being full because then he may start to ignore it to and may overeat.

He may be getting more efficient at getting the milk out when he is nursing at the breast and now it just takes him less time.

He could be replacing some of his bottlefed milk with more solids than he was previously eating.

If he is peeing and pooping, seems content and is growing, don't worry!

If he is not fussy why worry? He is getting what he needs or he would eat more. All babies are different and appities vary with growing and age. You could ask your Dr. if you should be concerned, but if your baby is happy then I would not worry.

He's not growing as fast as he was for the first 6 months, so he doesnt' have the same calorie needs. It sounds like he's doing fine.

it could be he might be ready for some solid food, my son started to be receptive to baby food (Gerber) around 5 months. They love it since it's something new for them. Be ready for the mess.

I would say he is fine....once he starts crawling/walking/cruising, he will start eating more again.
